The ForceTHE FORCE (aka Jay Garratt) is a Drum & Bass Producer and DJ who has over ten years of release history under his belt. In that time he has produced music for DJ Silver’s Nemesis Recordings, D*Minds ‘Stereotype’, J Majik’s ‘Infrared’, EZ Roller’s ‘Intercom’ and Micky Finn & Aphrodite’s ‘Urban Takeover’ and ‘Shakedown’ imprints, to name a few.

During this time THE FORCE has enjoyed DJ support from many of the scene’s leading heavyweights, including Andy C, Grooverider, Hype, Ed Rush & Optical, Bassline & Drumsound, DJ Fresh, DJ Hazard, Adam F, Crissy Criss, Roni Size, DJ Die, Krust, Twisted Individual, Nicky Blackmarket, London Elecktricity and TC.

THE FORCE first cut his teeth in 2000 DJing at various nights in Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Initially holding residencies at Stealth (Wolverhampton) and Aura Orange (Birmingham).

He also played many other events in Birmingham at the time, notably H.O.G, Atomic Jam, Raveology, Pro-Session, Autumn, Break Thru and Flashback.

Through his love of DnB, and the connections he made DJing at these nights, THE FORCE began on the sordid path of music production, a path he is still following today. In 2003, after two years of hard graft in the studio, things started to fall into place when he got his first release on Sudden Def Recordings, with the techy roller ‘The Subject’.

Shortly after this, Micky Finn got in touch, impressed with a demo CD he’d been sent, which lead to two years of releases on Micky’s and Aphrodite’s Urban Takeover and Shakedown imprints, with one EP including a remix of Urban Shakedown’s classic ‘Arsonist’.

Around the same time THE FORCE gained the attention of the EZ Rollers and scored two releases on their ‘New Skool Blazers’ series.

In 2005 THE FORCE released ‘Faithless’ on J Majik’s Infrared and ‘What Happens Here?’ on Calypso Muzak both of which brought him to the attention of D*Minds who signed him exclusively to the Bristol-based DSTYLE camp, alongside D*Minds, TC, Jakes and Eddie K.

During this time THE FORCE had several releases on the camp’s Stereotype imprint, notably ‘Dub 2 Africa’, ‘Dropzone’, ‘Something Out There’ and ‘The Story’.

He also became a resident at RUN, their infamous weekly night in Bristol. It was at RUN where he played alongside many of the scenes leading producers and DJs and befriended many of the Bristol faces, a time he remembers fondly.

In 2008 THE FORCE set up his own label, Rebel Bass Records, with the first release ‘Welcome To Earth’ spending two weeks in the Radio 1 and 1Xtra Drum & Bass Charts. A massive jump up track that always smashed up the dance and guaranteed a rewind every time.

The success of ‘Welcome to Earth’ was followed by a run of 12” and digital EP releases on Rebel Bass, with stand out tracks ‘Anther World’, ‘Fightin Talk’, ‘One Scratch’, ‘Darkside’, ‘Ball of Fire’ and ‘Need U Now’ getting spun in clubs all over the world.

THE FORCE continued to make an impact on the scene in 2013 with big releases on Silver’s Nemesis Digital Recordings, mostly notably ‘Spread Out’, a deep jungle roller, and the ‘100 Years a Day’ EP.

Now in 2014 he has found things going full circle with his music being snapped up by another Bristol based label, which in his own words he describes as “The Legendary Ruffneck Ting”, a label he is very much looking forward to working with.
